Toxicity

This is not a suggestion and I warn everyone whos about to read this because I am extremely pissed off. Ready, great. Now I have already talked to Jedoi about this problem we are having with Toxicity but to prove it is not admin bias, here is a non-covenant person sharing his regard of certain things. I am not a Guardian, I am in fact not even a slicer, but I am saying we all need to work on ourselves. We can all be Toxic, deceitful, and kindof a straight-up asshole at times. I am not saying you are not allowed to be angry. In fact, I'm writing this days later because of how Toxic I was when angry. People on Loka are claiming admin bias towards the covenant. Why would the admins do this? In fact, it would ruin the fun of their server. They let US decide on things. WE choose what WE do. They just overlook it. People are arguing in public chat. I'm not saying you can't argue but, this is kind of like arguing in a Starbucks on speakerphone. Another is the bullying going on. These people know who they are and should be ashamed but I am not naming names. Earlier this week SuperAlexFeild was scammed of a sword. I felt bad and lored her a new one. The scammer wasn't the toxic one I'm talking about though. It's deceitful, but allowed. It's just infuriating and learning from your mistakes, but what is important is that I'm in a call with SuperAlexFeild. We are talking about random stuff and if I can buy her sword back. When 2 people start insulting me for my new MC ign: Inexceptable. I didn't really care I was ignoring them because 1: I could care less what people think of me and 2: I wasn't gonna start an argument in Public Chat. But since Alex I was nice to Alex she decided to defend me. I don't remember exactly what went down but I remember it ended with these people insulting Alex to the point where she logged off Loka, and I heard her cry in Voice Chat. She then left voice chat and said; I'm going to bed. When I told these people in Public Chat what they had done, they didn't seem remorseful they seemed to find it amusing. I was just pissed so I knew I would get banned if I said anything. So I told Jedoi about the problem 30 minutes later. This is just an example of one. There are many more toxic things that have happened, and this is honestly not bannable just annoying. Everyone should work on themselves if you feel you are toxic all the time. No one is against you, you're NOT the victim and it's honestly sad that since you nerds get bullied in real life you have to cyberbully people and tell them to "go kill yourself". The main reason I came back to Loka was to help people out. It was gonna be a pastime for me. I was gonna help new players feel welcome and show them the ropes of Loka. I LOVED the experience when I felt so small in a Huge maze of plugins witch is Loka. I wanted to go for Guardian, but didn't care if I got even Slicer. I just wanted to help out new players. I also know that I myself have had a past of being toxic, but unlike lots of people, I went to Military Camp for half a year. In which I bettered myself and learned how to respect authority. I just want people to be happy, but of course, I have a life and won't be on Loka 24/7, but when I am on, from Weekdays usually from 5:30 to 10:15, and on weekends at whatever time I'm open. I am just hoping if you find yourself toxic. Just try to better yourself. There are other people out there with bigger problems with you dealing with it better. There was this girl in my class last year who's mom shot her boyfriend than killed herself. They found mass amounts of heroin under her mattress. What did she do? She was in fact toxic at some times when her mother was mentioned. But I DON'T BLAME HER. the real asshole is the one that mentioned her mother to her. Even 4 days after at her mom's funeral, our Cross Country team (including me) was there and she even smiled when we asked her when she would be back. Believe the story or not it's true, I really don't care. What I'm saying is worse stuff has happened to other people and they don't take their anger out on other people. I'm just gonna stop typing now before I write a 72-page college essay. But just think about what I have said.

Well said. Good reminder.

We can all be "toxic" at times, for sure. Unfortunately, those who make it a habit aren't exactly the remorseful type, and would rather laugh this off than think about the consequences of toxic actions. ("It's just a prank, bro! Quit being so butthurt!")

Best thing to do is report such bevavior to admins, and not let the toxic people get to you. Remember if someone has to resort to being an edgy, toxic person on Minecraft, they may not have the best conditions IRL. That doesn't excuse them, but it's a good perspective to have rather than hating the toxic people.

Tough situation, and I wish people in general were more willing to take criticism, but it doesn't usually work like that.

If you ever need someone to talk to about things, hmu :)

I also want to take this time to remind everybody that we have /ignore for a reason. Often the best course of action on things like this is de-escalation. Trying to engage people who prefer to be toxic will often blow up in your face because they're only in it for the lulz in the first place. Dealing with trolls 101 is not to feed them; often that just means ignoring them and letting staff take care of them if they're getting out of hand.

If this how you're going to respond to such an issue, I'd love to learn of why this feature hasn't been implemented in PG (or other PvP areas of the server).

I'm guessing it hasn't been thought out since PG is meant for PvP not chatting. I'd make a suggestion sounds like a good idea.

It has been suggested (and again).

Just turn chat off right?
Honestly, I fear that this would be sort of "solution" that could be advocated in the future, once more and more users start making use of the /ignore command. Players will always find ways to express themselves. If a toxic player diverts their attitude away from public chat, then they can totally start using other avenues. Expect them to use things such as lored/named swords, Discord channels/PMs/VCs, and behaviour like convincing others to treat members a certain way. Just a thought.

This type of behavior should be bannable. If someone is not wanting to talk to you and you force yourself into talking with them. That is borderline harassment.

I feel like if players harassed others through PM's etc after using the ignore function then the staff would already see that as harassment and take action.

If a player consistently found new ways to target others then I don't really think they would last that long if it was reported consistently with it happening; at least I hope it would go down this way.

It's not malicious; it's merely one of (as people are aware) hundreds of other issues on our plate. I'm taking a look at implementing that right now.

I sense people are conflating the reminder of /ignore with "and we're not gonna do anything about it". It was merely a reminder of a feature that very very few people use. We still want people telling us about toxicity so we can look into it. Unfortunately, toxicity is rarely black and white and so each instance needs to be looked into uniquely.

I further want to remind people of Our Policy on Harassment/Bullying. We can only do as much as we're told about. Yes we're aware of people being toxic, but there is a difference between people being casually toxic in general chat and targeted harassment which should be brought to Mag/I's attention.

I don't think ignoring people is a solution, if people are r Ally acting out of line just ban them. You have every right to
Ignoring people is definitely a solution if part of the problem is someone is saying things to you or in chat that you don't want to see. Unsure what your point is. Again, very important to remember that /ignore isn't an end all/be all, but it's a great place to start, especially if you think staff are failing to recognize someone being toxic in chat or whatnot.

Good post, I can tell you are passionate about this. It sucks, but it's pretty true across all aspects of life (school, jobs, etc.) that the loudest people will often be the most negative, hateful, and malicious. It's also unfortunate that all they want is to be responded to in some way shape or form so they can narrow their hate on a target. It's sad, but learning how to deal with it well here will help you in the other inevitable parts of life where you have to deal with people with low self esteem that can only find enjoyment in attempting to make other people feel as bad as they do. The truth is often that those who are like this don't have great relationships with parents or role models in their life. For me personally, it's difficult not to feel sorry for them.

We also can't always rely on others to step in and make sure we don't come into contact with it. Just find ways to limit what you can see and hear, like Crypt said, from them and stay focused on yourself and the people you care about. I respect you for having the guts to make a post like this when you know those same people will continue to belittle your position.

Wow! This is a great paragraph. I am just so heartbroken about the toxicity on Loka Minecraft! We should do whatever it takes to stop the bullies on loka. They have no place on our minecraft server!

For sure! Lots of times people like that are looking for attention; don't give it to them, and they'll either give up or do something worse to get your attention. If they do something worse, then it's easier for staff to step in :D

Yeah lol I wasn't talking about you. I mean the scam irked me but it wasn't the toxic part I was talking about.
